Visitor Tips and News About Pose with Stovepipe Hat Abe
A nine-foot-tall bronze statue of Abraham Lincoln stands in front of the Appellate Courthouse in Mount Vernon. In 1859 Abraham Lincoln actually argued an important case in this location involving the railroad. The courthouse is 150 years old and is also worth seeing.[Joice Lawrence, 08/09/2012]
Beardless Abe (he was clean-shaven in 1859), stands on the same ground you do, not some lofty pedestal. His nine-foot-tall height is at least partly attributable to his stovepipe hat. The statue was sculpted by Alan Cottrill and unveiled in 2008. January 2014: Photo added.
