Ed's Ghost Town - Vague Recollections

Re Lori Robbins 4/18/00 question on "Ed's Ghost Town" at Bedford Ind. Late 50's early 60's there was a place west of Bedford on Highway 50 that billed themselves as Ed's Ghost Town. I stopped there for a cold drink many times. Best as I can remember it was not even in the same county as Bedford, so maybe the "brass is not covering up". It was closer to Bedford then to Shoals. They just have not gone far away from town. It sat close to a hill top on the south side of the highway. And it never did make it really big. I remember they had a few cages of critters out back. Maybe even a bear, never did pay that much attention to it. It was usually late when I came past.

Ed's Ghost Town - Vague Recollections

In an antique shop in Bedford, Indiana (right on the old Dixie Highway), I found a souvenir plate for a place called Ed's Ghost Town, also supposedly in Bedford. It looked like a great big operation (the plate boasted that Ed's featured "the largest souvenir stand in Indiana") along the lines of a poor man's Silver Dollar City. A native hoosier friend's husband remembered passing it several times on family outings when he was a boy back in the fifties, but didn't have any further information about it because his dad would never stop there. He remembered it as being west of Bedford on highway 50, which is the road southbound travelers on the Dixie would have taken to go to Cincinnati in the old days.

Strangely enough, this one man appears to be the only person in southern Indiana who can remember Ed and his ghost town. I've traveled up and down hwy 50 several times looking for whatever remains of the place, but I can't seem to find anything. My friends and I have contacted all the relevant authorities, but there is some kind of coverup going on. Anybody have any answers to this mystery?
