Rock grotto.

St. Peter's Rock Grotto

St. Peter's Rock Grotto is on the north edge of Farmer. It appears to be on the property of the St. John Neumann Catholic Church (renamed from St. Peter's in 1998). The crown is open to allow sun into the grotto. It seemed to be well kept and sturdy, despite several rocks on the floor that had been swept into the corner of the grotto (Perhaps visitors should "beware of falling rock").

By the way, Father Scheier, the priest who built the grotto, is featured in one of the permanent murals on the inside of the Mitchell Corn Palace.

St. Peter's Rock Grotto

Small grotto in a town that is mostly forgotten. Excellent restoration of the grotto, though the Jesus is still suffering.

[tenkism, 07/21/2013]

There was a long period between 1959 and 2001 when the Father Scheier's rock grotto was left to the elements, but then it was carefully restored. The adjacent Christ statue appears weathered and vandalized.
