Large Bird Fighting a Snake
City Hall in downtown Fort Pierce has three pieces of public art on display. The most interesting of them is titled "Blind Date:" a large, stainless steel bird about to attack a copper snake. It was designed by Doug Makemson, a Georgia artist who specializes in pieces that depict animals, all made from scrap metal. The bird is about six feet tall with an eight-foot wingspan, and the snake is about two feet tall and two feet long.
The other two sculptures on the lawn are abstract: one looks like it might be a group of seagulls in flight, and the other looks like a tree trunk with six arms holding cardinals. Neither had a title plaque.
