The brick ruins are of a church built in the mid-1700s, burned by the British in 1779, rebuilt, then destroyed again in the waning days and aftermath of the Civil War. Surrounded by trees overhung with Spanish moss, which lend even more eerie atmosphere to the desolation.

These church ruins are along a two-lane road out in the middle of nowhere. Beautiful setting, quiet and very peaceful. A few graves are around the ruins. Even found one with my first name on it!

- I-95 exit 33. Drive east on US Hwy 17/Trask Pkwy for eight miles. Turn left (no stoplight) onto Old Sheldon Church Rd. Drive 1.5 miles. The church ruins are on the right side of the road, in the trees. There's a parking lot on the left side of the road.
