Roadside rock shelter was once augmented with the Fairy Cliff Cafe (1930s-1960s). Just ruins now, but the cave is still there.

On the west side of I_34, either seven miles south of its intersection with IL-145 in Mitchellsville, or 9.5 miles north of its intersection with IL-146 in Humm Wye.

Herod Cave/Fairy Cliff Cafe Ruins

A cave roadside park on Highway 34 includes the ruins of an old restaurant, the Fairy Cliff Cafe (1930s-1960s). The chimney and some electrical components can still be seen.

Some people have reported there was a caged bear in the cave at one time (but no imprisoned fairies).
