The Grave of the Foot of James A. Reid

We loved this attraction. To find, it walk around the perimeter of the brick fence. Located in an old Lutheran cemetery, with lots of cool gravestones from the 1800s. [Williams Family, 01/01/2011]

In 1893, James Reid had a late night encounter with a freight train that left him with a severed foot. Reid survived his injury, and not wanting to just dispose of his foot, he gave it a proper burial in the Lutheran Cemetery, complete with a ceremony and a headstone. The inscription reads "Foot of James A. Reid - Severed by a Freight Train on Nov. 25, 1893." Reid lived for another seven years, dying at the age of 95. [Dean Jeffrey, 04/13/2003]
