Much to my disappointment, the Edison Memorial Tower was surrounded by a gate when I visited today. The good news was that they reached the the threshold of $379,000 in private donations that they needed (by June 30, 2007) so they we will now receive matching funds from the US Mint to repair the tower and build a new museum.
Also, due to recent archaeological resources recovered at the Menlo Park Laboratory site, the site has been evaluated as potentially eligible for designation as a National historic landmark.
