West Branch, Michigan - Smiley Face Watertower 2005 was the 100th anniversary of the West Branch's founding -- the town is quite proud not only of this fact, but of their water tower. Posters with the "face" of the tower were all over town, so I assume at some point they held a big celebration -- evident not only from the posters, but also from the miniature water tower replica we found in a bank parking lot on the west end of town. This replica was made of something like paper mache, and appeared to have already sustained some damage, so it is likely the replica is not long for this world. [Richard Weiss, 01/01/2006]
