- Bakersfield, California - Music Legends in Bronze
This is my second visit to Buck Owens' Crystal Palace. The first time they wouldn't let me in at 8:40 even for drink because they close at 9. This time I had to practically fight with them to get a table, even though the place was half empty.
As for the statues -- they are really mediocre and worse yet they not stars of the Bakersfield scene. Where's Wynne Stewart for Pete's sake? As to the music show -- it was pathetic. Pure Nashville top forty, ugh. Even when they did one of Buck's songs it would have made Don Rich choke. What a sad, sad, sad memorial to all that Buck was.

[Megan, 04/17/2014] Big Statues Of Country Music Stars Now Stand Outside A Country Music Star's Restaurant
Buck Owens' Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, California -- on Buck Owens Blvd. -- recently unveiled larger-than-life bronze statues of ten country music and rockabilly stars: Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Willie Nelson, Buck Owens, Elvis Presley, George Strait, Hank Williams Jr., and Bob Willis. The Crystal Palace is where 75-year-old Buck and his pals still perform, as well as being a Planet Hollywood-style museum/restaurant. Bakersfield is "the country music capital of the West" and the Crystal Palace recently won the Nightclub of the Year award from the Academy of Country Music, even before Buck installed the statues.
Update: Buck Owen died in 2006.

Statues of cancer patients ran toward and lept through "gates" of treatment and recovery. By 2022 all of the human figures were missing, probably melted by thieves for their bronze.
