The rubber band ball is still covered up, and the guy in the shop was in a bad mood when we were there - seems the roof has collapsed, which may be why the ball is covered up.
We snuck a picture through the doorway, but this guy needs to sort out his roof and get the ball back on display. If he made a bit more effort he could really make it something worth visiting!

- San Francisco, California - World's Biggest Rubber Band Ball
All I knew was that my boyfriend was dragging me through SF to see "something interesting." We arrived at the Pride Superette, walked in, and the rubber band ball was up front, covered by some old blankets. You could see a bit of it peeking out from one of the blankets, but there was nothing else to indicate what it was.
There was a man at the register -- I asked him how long it took to make and he said "Why?" and appeared a bit annoyed by our presence. Compared to the other reviews - the reception was very chilly! We were about to take a picture and he told us "no photos" and pretty much chased us out of the store. Had there been a charge for pictures, or postcards for sale we would have gladly ponied up the money! There was a sign outside the building advertising the rubber band ball.

This is still a work in progress, 18 months after it was first listed on roadsideamerica.com. A friend is visiting from Boston and we called to verify the number and address. As of mid-February 2005, the rubber band ball was 3,000 pounds and still growing! It's about four feet in diameter and hulks in the open doorway of the Pride Superette like an enormous serape-draped troll. One of the brothers gave my friend a photo postcard and told us he still had about 100 pounds of rubber bands to add before they consider the ball complete.
[Emily Cookson, 04/01/2005] - San Francisco, California - World's Biggest Rubber Band Ball
This was a giant rubber band ball that two brothers have been working on for the past three years. There was a big blanket over it with a "do not touch and no photos" sign on it. One of the brothers did allow me to lift the blanket to get a better look and sold me a photo of the two brothers and the ball. He was kind enough to autograph the photo. He told me that Ripley's Believe It Or Not had been there the week before, and that the ball was to be featured in one of their television programs. There was a big box of rubber bands behind the counter and he told me that he was going to continue to work on it. He said some days they work on it for 11 hours at a time.
[Catherine Kanwetz, 10/11/2003] World's Largest Rubber Band Ball?
World's Largest Rubber Band Ball On Display In San Francisco: According to a story last week in the San Francisco Chronicle, Samir "Sammy" Keishk, who owns the Pride Superette in the Mission District, has spent the last 18 months building a rubber band ball that measures 14 feet around and weighs 2,260 pounds. The current Guinness record weighs a measly 850 pounds. The ball is on display at his market. "I'm the man, my friend," said Keishk.
Jan. 2006: Rubber Band Ball king John Bain, in Delaware, wrote us: "The official Guinness World Record is still held by myself. My ball weighs 3130 lbs. It is in the current 2006 book."
