Moo with a View: Cow

Well marked but narrow hike up to the top of the hill. The wide view is spectacular. Parking in neighborhoods at base of the trails. Follow the ISLAY trail to the top, approximately 2 mile loop. This is a moderate/intermediate hike.

Moo with a View: Cow

The views are fabulous, especially on a lovely day. However, you might want to be prepared for the fact that the mile trek to the cool cow is 1 mile of goat path switchbacks with 30-60 degree inclines and you return the same way you came. I thought it was worth it for the glorious views (especially with everything so green) but i wouldn't take a young child or an old dog.

Sightseeing Cow

Need to stretch your legs? A short, 1.8 mile round-trip hike to the top of Islay Hill Peak provides great views of the San Luis Obispo environs -- as attested by this binocular-wielding cow that has climbed a pole to get an even better view. The view includes the well-known geologic features of the Nine Morros of San Luis Obispo County, a series of volcanic plugs created 20 million years ago; the Santa Lucia Mountains; and Edna Valley.
