The mural has been redone. This time Larry is playing a violin. It looks amazing.

The Larry Fine Mural was removed in 2005 because it was painted on cheap plaster which, unfortunately, had started to peel away from the building and crumble. Funds are being collected to have the original artist re-do the mural.

It started as a joke - the daily Philadelphia paper was sponsoring a collection to put up a mural of Frank Sinatra in the city. One of the smaller weeklies pointed out that Sinatra was from Jersey, and Philadelphians should be honoring their native sons instead. Sons like Larry Fine.
The weekly paper wasn't really serious about the mural, but then people started pledging donations. So they figured, heck - why not?
[Ian B., 04/27/2003] The walk-thru heart was interesting, and had signs along the route that explain what is happening to blood as it moves through. The sounds were an important part of the experience. To give some perspective, they stated that this heart was the correct size for a person the size of the Statue of Liberty.
The whole Franklin Institute was excellent. One of the best science museums I've ever been in.
