International Women's Air and Space Museum
Cleveland, Ohio
Small museum chronicles the often forgotten women pioneers of aviation and space flight. Displays include Amelia Earhart's flight suit and World War I nurse uniform, and a miniplane flown by a single mother of six, who built it in her garage in the 1960s. Has exhibits on aviators such as Gladys O'Donnell (the first woman to fly in a Hollywood movie) and Fay Gillis Wells (the first woman to bail out of a plane and live). Also here is an exhibit on the 13 "Mercury Women" who underwent secret astronaut testing in 1961 and were known as FLATS (First Lady Astronaut Trainees).
