Remodeled in the 1990's by the Grant Company, the museum is well lit and very nice. Features animals such as bears, moose, bison, and the famous 8-legged cow and 2-headed cow. The library at the Abbey is also world famous for its architectural design, one of two buildings designed in the U.S. by Alvar Aalto. The Mt. Angel Abbey sits on the edge of Mt. Angel and actually is it's own town of St. Benedict, Oregon. Mt. Angel features a world famous Oktoberfest every year. The small town of 3,00 becomes a town of 500,000 for 4 days in September.
[Mar Bauman, 03/23/2003]I'd like to mention that along with the giant hairball, the Mt. Angel Abbey also has not just one but TWO eight-legged calves on display. They've also got a huge taxidermy animal display -- bears, buffalo, deer, moose, etc. Definitely worth a stop!
[Francesca Contreras, 08/11/2001]We would like to confirm that the world's largest hairball is still in the Mt. Angel Abbey Museum in Mt. Angel. Weighing 2.5 pounds, it came from a hog's stomach.
