Thanks to the city of Rhinelander for this fun statue and swept winter bike paths to get to the Chamber of Commerce building. Love the selfie stand too!

Trademarked Hodag Statue

Amidst the mystical forests of Rhinelander, WI lives the ferocious, yet possibly misunderstood beast, the Hodag! Born from a hoax in the 1800s, he now draws road trip nerds (like me) from far and wide. Made even more famous not only by its television debut on an episode of Scooby Doo, but its mention in JK Rowlings' Fantastic Beasts, the Hodag is a creature worthy of a road trip pilgrimage in itself. The Hodag store beckons travelers with an array of Hodag souvenirs, including socks, plushies, and even Hodag poop (green silly putty). I keep telling my children, someday they could end up on a trivia game show and the million dollar question could be "What mythical creature is Rhinelander, Wisconsin's claim to fame?"
