Golden Age Nursing Home Fire

The Golden Age Nursing Home burned to the ground on November 23, 1963, killing 63 of its 84 residents. A third of the bodies were never claimed and were buried in a mass grave 12 miles away. A historical marker notes that the fire "was overshadowed by the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and was not widely reported."
