- From MA-63 turn west at the Lake Pleasant sign onto Lake Pleasant Rd. Drive three-quarters of a mile. Turn right onto Adams St. Drive about 500 feet, and you'll see the bridge on the right.
In 1853 the Reverend George Carawan was charged at Beaufort County Courthouse with the murder of schoolteacher Clement Lassiter; Lassiter was believed to be a little too friendly with Carawan's wife (a charge the wife denied). Carawan killed himself after the verdict. Some say that they feel the Reverend Carawan's angry presence in the courthouse even today, along with the detached sound of gunshots and breaking glass.
