On the north side of I-10, about 43 miles east of Fort Stockton, is Squawteat Peak, a 300-foot-high cone-shaped limestone hill in the desert. Native peoples were probably drawn here by Squawteat Peak's natural plant resources and flint outcroppings, as well as the dramatic peak itself.
