This, the former U.S. flagpole champ, was erected in 1996. It's 200 feet tall and flies a flag 30 feet high and 60 feet long.

Local says this is now the tallest because the 1st was destroyed in a hurricane... Katrina?

Not quite. The former tallest flagpole -- in Wisconsin -- was taken down because of poor construction. But the former 2nd tallest, and now tallest, flagpole is still standing in Laredo, Texas. So the flagpole in Dorris is still the 2nd tallest!
