Unger, West Virginia: The Farnham Colossi

Fiberglass giant collector George Farnham reports he's obtained another Santa Claus to add to his yard. This one, in Acton, Maine, and in dire need of a paint job, was nabbed on eBay for $500. The Santa will be transported to Unger, WV, where it will join a muffler man, surfer dude, Big John grovery clerk, and another Santa.

Fake outhouses are springing up on the roads and businesses around Unger, WV. In an amusing twist on community statue art projects, colossi collector George Farnham is leading neighbors in a serious civil protest against a new housing development by erecting fake outhouses labeled: "Keep Morgan County Rural."

George and Pam Farnham reported they had successfully installed the golden-crowned Muffler Man they purchased earlier this year on eBay. The Muffler Man stood in Whittier, California for decades at a Midas Muffler shop. The Farnhams shipped him cross-country to West Virginia to be displayed in their yard as a dream lawn ornament.

The Farnhams held an open house last weekend to officially welcome the big guy to Unger. He stands at the top of the driveway, wearing his Midas crown and holding a large yellow car muffler.

The Midas Muffler man statue in Whittier, California sold for an amazing $1,325 on an ebay auction in March. The statue stood on the roof of a muffler shop since 1962, and had been taken down in 2003 and placed in storage.
