First Surfer in U.S.

Bronze bust of George Freeth, who came from Hawaii in 1907 and introduced surfing to southern California. Promoted as "The Man Who Could Walk on Water." Freeth was California's first official lifeguard, and invented the torpedo rescue buoy. Terry O'Donnell's 1977 sculpture stolen in 2008; recast/replaced in 2010.
