In the 1960s, Ocean Beach (known as OB by locals) became the Haight-Ashbury of San Diego. There is still a strong hippie vibe on the beach in OB, with an old VW van -- once operational -- but remains as a monument covered in stickers and graffiti.
It is located in a parking lot on the north side of Newport Avenue between Bacon and Abbott Streets near the famous Hodad's Burgers.
[Gary Spino, 08/01/2022]The 1960s "hodad" surfer van has been parked at this spot since 2007. For years it was unmolested, but by 2014 people had started plastering it with stickers. Now it's nearly unrecognizable.
Sticker Hippie Van:- Address:
- 5022 Newport Ave., San Diego, CA
- Directions:
- On the north side of Newport Ave., just west of its intersection with Bacon St.
