Fountain Hills, Arizona: World's 4th Tallest Freshwater Fountain

Taller, newer fountains forced an adjustment to this fountain's claim name. 15 minutes of spew on the hour, rising from 330 to 560 feet. We were advised not to sit in the mist, as the water is part of the town's waste treatment system. Recycled water; very commendable.

Tallest Fountain.

The Fountain - Former World's Tallest

The Fountain, driven by three 600 horsepower turbine pumps, sprays water at a rate of 7,000 gallons per minute though an 18-inch nozzle. The fountain runs for 15 minutes on the hour at the top of the hour. The water in Fountain Lake is actually clean and quite safe as it is treated and tested on a regular basis. With all three pumps running, the fountain reaches 560 feet in height. When built, it was the world's tallest fountain and held that record for over a decade.

Fountain Hills is a beautiful town located in the hills east of Scottsdale and is home to nearly 70 pieces of publicly displayed artwork. The eight fountains along the Avenue of the Fountains were the beginning of the public art collection.

Don't sit in the mist. The Fountain and lake are part of the water treatment system.

Fountain blasts away.

World's Tallest Fountain

The work being done to the World's Tallest Fountain is complete and the fountain is again spouting on the hour, every hour, during daylight hours. When the fountain is active, the column of water can be seen for miles. The park surrounding the fountain is still partially closed due to on-going facility upgrades at this time but the open section is an excellent area to congregate with family and friends and, as an added bonus, if the winds are blowing your way you get a very nice, refreshing mist from the fountain.

December 2005: Tipster Matt Luedders notes that the Gateway Geyser in East St. Louis, IL is now the world's tallest fountain, at 630 ft. vs. Fountain Hill's 560 ft.
